Happy New Year!

1/3/00
Rainy, cloudy and just nasty out as we head East on Hwy 54. Getting very foggy out, too. Darlin' had to stop on 54 as our JCAD work box had slid around in the back of the truck and the plastic covering it was flapping in the breeze. Lots of traffic out. We can see Hickory Hill Antiques ahead on the left. Clark and Diane have been busy! Their store is evolving with each visit. They have a lot more advertising items, the displays are all new and exciting! Where do they find all this neat stuff?? Had a GREAT visit, always enjoy talking to these two. Be sure to tell them you found their store on JCAD! Sun going down as we're heading home the back way. Cold and windy out, stay warm!

Flu bug has had us all, so nice to be traveling again. Cold out early, but sunny and warming up nicely, 50's by the time we headed West on Hwy 54. At the 54 & 42 Junction and light, turn left and go only about a quarter mile and you'll see Osage Beach Flea Market on the right. Yes, it's the place with all the cars and trucks in the parking lot! They are open every day except Tuesdays. When we walked in, we were greeted by Caroline. We always enjoy visiting with her so much. She's probably the one you e-mail with, too. Osage Beach Flea Market or OBFM, was the only JCAD store that went to the eBay seminar at the Lodge of Four Seasons. I know we learned so much that night! As we started our updates, we got to visit with Mickey Mouse! We've known him over 4 years! They now have computers for sale. Lots of new booth owners moving in for the new year. Don got there before we left and we always learn something from him. Their store is wonderful, it changes dramatically every week! Come travel the back way and see these folks. Please tell them JCAD sent ya!

Cloudy out as we head West on Hwy 54. Linn Creek, population 243, still under construction. Little bit of fog down in the hollers. Lots of traffic out and about. See a sign, road narrows, use caution next 2 miles, can see the Lake of the Ozarks off on the right. Beautiful homes dot the shoreline. Niangua Branch getting a new bridge! Yeah! Took Hwy 73 turning left, through Branch, looks like it could snow like crazy! At the Junction of Hwys 64 and 73, stop for the red light and stay on 73 South. Heading into Buffalo and turned right onto Locust, and stopped at the corner of Maple and Benton Streets at the Davis Antiques and Collectibles. Left a brochure on her door, met her last trip, nice folks! On down to the Chamber of Commerce and met Charlotte, got to leave JCAD brochures and had a nice visit. On down the highway to stop at Polly's Flea Market Mall. Got to meet Brenda and she's been to see the site! Yeah! We're so proud! Had a great visit and met lots of customers and gave all a JCAD brochure. Off we go, left on Hwy 32 towards Bolivar. Stopped at Victorian Steakhouse in Buffalo for a GREAT lunch! Ran into an Elk there! Imagine that! On down to Bo-Peeps Antiques and as always, had a GREAT visit with Mavis. On down the road to Bolivar, population 6,825. Stopped at all the stores and passed out brochures. Misting rain now as we head South on Hwy 13 to Country Classics Antiques and Flea Market. Met Judy, a boother that works on Mondays! So glad to hear Larry and Sharon get a day off! They deserve it! Met lots of nice folks and of course, gave them all brochures. Got a great update and new pictures. Off we go back North on Hwy 13. Lots of traffic out as we headed out of town the back way on Hwy D. The Pomme de Terre River is looking good! Huron Grocery and Bait store is not open anymore, but a great place to pull off the road and refill our tea glass. There are 2 weeping willow trees next door, they are coming to life with yellow branches like it's spring time! How strange for the middle of January in Missouri! Sprinkling enough to use the wipers, see 3 Jumps Farm on the left and beef cattle in all colors on the right. Into the community of Polk and at the junction we took West Hwy 64. The fields on the left are orange. Stopped at Pittsburg at the store to give away JCAD brochures and left one on the bulletin board. Crossed the bridge at Pomme de Terre Lake and there is ice on the metal bridge. Windows feel much colder, nice and warm in the Toyota. Our children gave my Darlin' a vibrating and pulsing "Kool Kooshion" seat and it's hooked up in the truck. It's GREAT! Stayed on Hwy 64 thru Nemo and on up to Hwy 54. Hang a right and you're on the yellow brick road, heading home the back way! Be safe out there!

Cloudy and cold out as Robin and I head East on Hwy 54. Got off on the 52 Tuscumbia and Eldon exit and turned left across the bridge. Traffic is heavy as we head into the Eldon area. On to Maple Street to get updates from Gene at Blast From the Past. Passed out JCAD brochures to all and got some good photo's and listing of new items. His store is cram packed full of unique items--you can hardly get through the isles. So many neat things to see. Then across the street to get an update from Randy at Maple Street Emporium. They have sold a tremendous amount of items from this store. They move a lot of furniture, dressers, tables and chairs. Their listing has so many items marked off that have sold. That's what I really like to see! He has gotten many e-mails from the web site, also. That's GREAT! Got a good update and took many pictures. He still has a few JCAD brochures left, so I only got to give 1 away to a customer. Picked up Robin at the Computer Store and away we go the back way home!

Busy day out for Darlin' and myself. How many things can you do in one day? Census, Elks and JCAD. Whew! Keeps us busy! Cold out, but so far, the snow has evaded us. Ok, I spoke too soon. It's starting to snow a little bit now. The flakes are pretty good size and really pretty to watch coming down. Taking the back way into Lowry City and Osceola. Down Hwy 13 to visit with the good folks at Trade Fair Mall. They are busy today! That's what I like to see! Kathy is always a pleasure to visit with, she knows so much about antiques and collectibles and we always learn something from her! Even got to say hi to Paul for a minute! Gave away all the brochures I had with me to the many customers and learned what they collected! That's my favorite part of the job, visiting with the folks and seeing all the neat stuff! We're so PROUD that this store bought a computer and got online! Now you can e-mail them anytime! Got a good update and some neat pictures. Now, it's snowing like crazy outside. Should have put my work box in plastic, it now has about 2 inches of snow on top! Some snow, some ice. We get back in the truck and heading towards home. Have the spare tire on as we had a flat late last night, and had to leave out at 6:00 am this morning, so our tires are not all the same. That makes for difficult driving! And I mean the snow is coming down and sticking everywhere! Some of the roads we are traveling, we are making the new tracks as no one has been here lately. The snow plows are working some of Hwy 54, thank goodness. It's getting dark and as we stopped in Preston to get more gasoline, the whole left side of the Toyota is frozen! It's neat, tho, the wheels have flower designs on them, got Darlin' to take a picture! Jumped out of the truck into 4 inches of slush that filled the bottom of my pant legs! Burr!! It's cold and nasty out! The Niangua Bridge is still under construction, be careful, they have added new lines and placed barrels anywhere they wanted, it's very dangerous in the dark, much less in the snow. Luckily, we made it through there ok, everyone is trying to make it home safely. Headed into Osage Beach and no snow plows to be seen! The Grand Glaize Bridge is covered with several inches of snow and ice. We started across it and the Toyota was sliding sideways all the way across, we had no control! AHHH! Ok, we're across that, the tires grabbed highway at the end, this part has been salted, many hills before we get home. Darlin' is an excellent driver and use to driving in the snow. That helps so much. But our little toy is not 4 wheel drive, caught up with some front wheel drive cars crawling down the road, don't blame them, but we've gotta get a little speed up or we won't make it up this next big hill. Doing ok, then the truck would just take off on it's own, heading for the guard rail at Osage National Golf course, enough of this. We're almost home the back way! Turned onto our side road and we both yelled "Yippee" as we crawled towards home. So nice to see the lights on and the smoke coming out the chimney! There's no place like home! Inside to warm up and visit with our children. Now we can enjoy the beautiful snow and yes, everything is pretty and white, even the cedar trees. They look their best with snow! Hey folks! Ya'll be careful out there!
