01/01/01 Happy New Year!! Extremely cold here! High in the teens! Hope ya'll are warm in all your back way travels. We are staying warm beside the woodstove! 01/02/00 Off we go bright and early, it was -3 early this morning. Darlin' has been busy working on web pages and stoking the woodstove most of the night. We're off early, it's warmed up to 6 degrees, to see if we can do Miss Helper! runs here in our neighborhood. Yes, we can make it around on the roads today. We do our business, Miss Helper! on Tuesdays and Wednesdays! It was so foggy out this morning, it was spooky looking. You could hardly see the trees out in the yard. Now, it's clearing off some. All the trees going towards Osage Beach on Hwy 54 are white, shiny and covered with frost! They are beautiful! The frost is falling in the air, it's thousands of shiny sparkles falling everywhere! It sure is pretty down by the Osage River, frosty trees and shrubs, the river has ice in some spots and the water is steaming in other spots. So unusual! Busy day, handed out several JCAD brochures in our travels. So nice to have the bright, cherry color paper. All the folks were so happy to get their brochures. Only one lady was not on-line, she liked the addresses and store hours and directions to all the stores. She told me I was naughty, and I asked why? Because her weakness is antiques! She was a happy woman! And I was happy to be naughty! Headed back home for a late lunch and busy working on web pages! See ya'll soon! 01/05/01 Wonderful sunshine, up to 40's today. My Darlin' and been busy revising and printing the latest JCAD brochure. Now, I'm busy folding them. Off in the afternoon to Eldon to pass out brochures at Trade N Place. Had a really nice visit with Dan. Sent information to all the local TV stations about his jam sessions each Saturday. Hope they come visit. On up the street to visit with Gene at Blast From the Past. Business has been slow this month, hope it all picks up soon. This store has so many unique items! Come visit and you'll be looking at stuff for hours! Be sure to look all the way up to the ceiling! Gave away brochures at the motels and restaurants in town. Heading home now the back way. Ya'll be careful out there! 01/11/01 Beautiful sunshine out as we head West on Hwy 54. The huge piles of snow are starting to thaw. Thank goodness! This is the first day of temperatures over 32 degrees we've seen in 3 weeks! We're up to 41 degrees as we stop at Osage Beach for Darlin' to wash the Toyota. On down to Camdenton to turn left onto Hwy 5 South. I get to drive for awhile. First stop, Auto Zone in Lebanon, Missouri to get a bolt and washer for the starter. No wonder it was making noise! We do take some mighty rough roads in our travels, must have vibrated the bolt completely out of the starter. They are such nice folks here at this Auto Zone. Be sure to visit if you ever need any parts for your vehicle while you're in Lebanon. Of course, all the folks in the store got a free JCAD brochure! The sun is shining now as we head South. The fields are sparkling white on the pretty snow. We stayed on Hwy 5 almost to Hartville in Wright County. The wind sculptures of snow drifts are as tall as our truck! How beautiful! They fill the fence rows along the way. On through Hartville and turned East on Hwy 38 and down to Norwood. Passed out many JCAD brochures and had a nice visit at our favorite butcher shop. Met new folks in town, heard what they collected. Hope they all leave a message in our JCAD guestbook. It's been a day for seeing wildlife, too. We saw 2 wild turkeys, one flew right in front of us. Saw many squirrels and several hawks were perched in the top of trees. Had a wonderful back way home, pretty much the same roads. Be careful out here and be good to each other. Come travel with us again soon! The odometer in the Toyota turned over 200,000 miles. History in the making! We even took a picture! 01/22/01 Happy Birthday Darlin'. I WILL respect my elders until March, then I'll catch up with you! Thanks children, it was a great party! 01/26/01 My Darlin' took gallons of water to thaw the ice off our front steps this morning. Woke up several times last night hearing the sleet hit the bedroom windows. A truly gray day, 30's out this morning as we head West on Hwy 54 to Osage Beach. Lots of traffic out, it's 9:25 a.m. Sure looks different in Linn Creek, population 232, we'll have a new highway coming soon! Bulldozers have seen everywhere! Red dirt now, and rocks instead of mountains. On through Camdenton, extremely gusty winds. Leaves blowing everywhere. Filled up the Toyota with gas, $132.9 here today. Can't get over the winds. Blowing our little Toy around at the Niangua Branch of Lake of the Ozarks. It's the bumpiest new bridge we've seen in a long time. Seagulls are flying by the lake. Guess when we come home, we can put a sail on the toy and just fly on home! We are still fighting the wind to Macks Creek. Stayed on Hwy 54 West, nice to see the ground again. Every now and then you see a patch of snow in the woods beside the road. Pretty horses all standing near the trees to try and block the wind. Into the community of Preston, population 154. Waved at a guy in the field on the left riding his horse. He waved back, too! He was bundled up! Such a pretty ride, rolling hills, limestone bluffs, forests on each side. Crossed the Pomme de Terre River. Made stops at all the antique stores in Hermitage. Then stopped at Hicomo roadside park for our lunch snack of sirloin, bread and chips. I cooked an extra steak last night for supper so we'd have it to take with us. Winds not quite so strong now, but mighty cold out. The heater sure feels good in the Toy. Sign says 61 miles to Nevada. Now that's Nevada, MO. Hope to go visit all those antique stores, soon. All the fields are brown and we see several snow drifts here and there. Sure is farming country. The only patches of trees are around the farm houses. Gurnseys and Jersey cows on the right. They make such delicious milk, full of cream! Sure do miss buying milk from the farm. Crossed the Little Weableau Creek and see bears in the woods! Actually, it's cut out bear silhouettes, along the driveway next to the woods. Into the town of Weableau, population 436. Stopped at a new Flea Market beside Freda's and left JCAD information and brochures. Only open on weekends, the lady, Carol, said it was a yard sale gone crazy. On down Hwy 54 into St. Clair county. Crossed Weableau Creek and into Collins, population 144. Turned left onto Hwy 13. Darlin' showed me a beautiful ray of sunshine coming through the clouds. Awesome. On down Hwy 13, see the billboard for Country Classics with our URL across it. Looks GREAT! Down to have a wonderful visit with Larry and Sharon at Country Classics Antique Mall. My goodness, the store has changed so much! Did not realize that Larry has been through by-pass heart surgery! He's doing really well. We got a chance after doing the update to sit a spell with them both and have a good visit. Got to hug Sharon's neck and let them know how happy we are that all is well. Heading out of town on Hwy 32 towards Buffalo. Allright, the parking lot is full and we're here at Polly's Flea Market Mall. Oh no, poor old Nancy is sick as can be! A flu bug! She's here today because we left a message we were coming! We even got to meet her husband, Steve and eat ice cream! Her store is changing, new vendors setting up. She has wonderful furniture for your home. Tables, chairs, beds, dressers, come on down and check it out! Had a nice visit with them both, then headed across the street to visit again with Rick at Hattie's Place. Hope to get them in JCAD soon! Heading home the back way, ya'll be careful out there! Come travel with us again real soon! We always enjoy having you along! |
