April Fools Day! We all had tricks up our sleeves this morning! Darlin' and I are off on Hwy 54 heading East. Got to Eugene, MO and remembered my work box was still at home, outside by my chair where I was folding brochures. So, we got to travel Hwy 17, through Tuscumbia, back home and start again! Ok, back to Eugene and turned beside the Total station to go visit with Lloyd at Aged to Perfection. Wish he would call his store, Lloyd Boyd's as everyone knows him, but no one remembers Aged to Perfection! So happy to hear that Judy will be back, helping run the store and getting them back on-line. Miss their e-mails. So much has sold from here and so many interesting pieces of furniture have been moved into their place. Lloyd is a "quality" kinda furniture guy. Beautiful wardrobes, cabinets, bedroom sets. Nice stuff. I know he won't ask, but PLEASE tell him you found his store through JCAD! Thanks! On down the road, still heading East on Hwy 54 to have a GREAT visit with Diane and Clark at Hickory Hill Antiques. My goodness, these folks have been busy! Their store is all different! What wonderful, whimsical stuff! And if you've got your heart set on owning your own antique store, she had a wonderful 3-4 story store in St. Elizabeth. Come see her e-bay items for photo's and more information. Tell Diane you found her off JCAD! Thanks! Wrote down page after page, Darlin' got some great photo's. Had a fun trip handing out brochures all the back way home. Until next time!

Patches of blue sky and big white clouds blowing around as we head West towards Hwy 54. Too much traffic out for the Toy, took off on Catrock Rd instead. Beautiful redbuds and now the dogwoods are glowing white. Waved at a son picking up brush and Dad mowing. What a nice place. Seems we are going the right direction as all the heavy traffic is heading East on Hwy 54. The new leaves are beautifully green, so many shades of green and now each tree has some! The pollen count is really high this last week. Gusty winds as we near the Osage River, it's really low. It's a nice day to be out and about. I smell the hot mix we got from Meadowbrook Health Food Store, one in Lebanon, West Plains and Mountain Grove, Missouri. It's extremely hot and good for what ails ya! Cayenne sticks, pumpkin seeds and wheat sticks. Need more water, please! Stopped by Super Wal-Marts as some Elks are cooking up burgers and brats for the W.W. II Memorial fund. Two brats to go! Down to Camdenton and turned right onto Hwy 5 North. So much new construction going on! The Dogwood Festival is still going at the Stoneridge Amphitheater. See the rides as we go by. Heading through Greenview and on up to Sunrise Beach, population 181. Hey, they're building a new Post Office! How nice! Darlin' saw a snake in the road, belly up. Is it gonna rain?? New businesses everywhere! The West side of the lake is really growing! Had a GREAT visit with Billie and Bill at S & W Bargain Spot. They are under contract, keep your fingers crossed! These folks have worked many a year in their store, hope they can get away and travel and work a few booths here and there! Good luck to you both! They are great friends. Heading home the back way, still lots of traffic out, ahhhhhh....the more to give brochures to! Be safe! And please, remember to bring your driving skills and your manners with you when you come visit! Hope to see you soon!

Good Friday--sunshine and beautiful blue skies. Heading towards Clinton, MO. which way should we go?? Another windy day, but much warmer. Headed East on Hwy 54 to the 54/52 Junction in Eldon. Hang a left onto Business 54. Gasoline is $1.35 a gallon. At the red light, turn left onto Hwy 52 towards Versailles. Lots of traffic out on the gorgeous day! Versailles population 2,365. Remember, the speed limit is only 50 all the way into town. Everything is so pretty and green. Hang a right to follow 52 West. Gasoline here is $1.26 a gallon. Open Air Market on the left, got Darlin' to stop so we could meet some Fleas. The sun feels good, but the wind still has a bite to it. In one ear and out the other! Got to give out lots of brochures at the Flea Market. Met lots of nice folks, too! This market is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday all summer. The wind blew my Elks hat off before I could get into the truck! Burr! Now that's gusty winds! Nice to be back inside, looking at the map, shall we take Hwy W between Versailles and Stover?? That brings us out to Lincoln. But, you never know which road we'll end up on, tho! We always find new back ways to travel. Stopped at Evans Toy Store in Stover to pass out brochures. Looks like Grandpa has his hands full! Nope, we stayed on 52 instead of Hwy W. Made it into Cole Camp, population 1,250. Lots of pretty redbud trees in bloom. Saw the Abraham Lincoln Post 305 American Legion Hall, really like their name! All the antique stores we stopped at were closed. For the day?? Who knows?? We told 'em they needed a web page! Heading out of town on Hwy 65 North to P Hwy. Turned left, what a nice place! Fruit trees all in bloom. Old missile silo not used anymore on the right. Green, green grass with yellow flowers painted here and there. What a pretty back way. Much nicer than Hwy 65. Into the community of Ionia, population 126. Had to cruise town, nice place. Stayed on Hwy P to Hwy ZZ and turned right into Petis County. Lots of cows and new calves in many colors! Hang a left and you're back onto Hwy 52 West! We see disked brown fields on the left and green wheat on the right! Lots of yellow coreopsis, purple iris and oh my! Herrick's Art, Antiques and Collectibles at 16541 Hwy 52! Had to turn around and go back. The store wasn't open today, left a brochure on the door. Pulled off on a dirt road, has a little creek beside us...pretty purple flowers, oh yes, it's picnic time! Roast beef sandwiches, chips and ice tea. What a great spot! The mail lady came by, but that was the only vehicle. Thanks Darlin'! Back out on the road and crossed Flat Creek, that was the name of the creek we listened to and watched while we ate. Also crossed the Pepper Branch and now into Windsor, population 3,340. Sign for Horse drawn vehicles and into Henry County. Drove around the block so Darlin' could take a picture of a side of the Western Auto store. It's a neat painting for Coca-Cola. See a sign for Katy Trail Parking in Calhoun, population 450. Yes, the Katy Trail State Park is ahead. Can't stop today! On into Clinton, population 8,703 to visit with Merry at Wagon Wheel Antique Mall. Always a pleasure to shop here. Bought us an Elks commemorative Beams decanter. Gave out lots of JCAD brochures. If you didn't get one, pick one up by her store guestbook. Merry had her update list ready to go! Darlin' got good photo's and I got the listing info for new stuff in the store. They certainly have been busy. Kay came in before we left, nice to visit with her, too. On over to visit with Tom and Barbara at Emporium Flea Mall. My goodness, so much has changed! Barbara had a long list of update items for us to take off! GREAT! So many unique items here! You'll have to come see for yourselves! Told us about a new store in town up on Hwy 7 called Memory Antiques. Brand new building, booth space available. They, like Country Classics in Bolivar, also have antique cars in their showroom and have a cafe to serve their customers. Stop by and please tell 'em JCAD sent ya! Thanks! We look forward to coming back again. Left brochures and met the owners daughter. Left here and over to the Elks Lodge in Clinton for a wonderful taco feast and great hospitality! Got to say HI to all those folks for always treating us so nicely! Out of town we go heading on Hwy 52 for the long ride home. Ya'll be careful out there and see you next time! E-mail us and let us know what you think of "The Back Way". Bye!
