4/2/99
Cloudy out, all is wet as it just rained. Out onto East Hwy 54 to Hwy 52. Tulip trees, peach, plum, pear and redbuds starting to bloom. Beautiful! Tuscumbia, Population 148, Hwy 17. Beautiful fields, crossing the Osage River. It's way down. Tavern Creek area is absolutely beautiful! Trees blooming, fields turning bright green! Peach tree blooms are bright pink! Buff Orphington hens out of the henhouse and scratching around in their pen! VFW Hall is packed, all are happy! Coming up on Hwy 133. Huge tulip tree full bloom on the left. Drive through Crocker, hang a right on Hwy 133 South towards Richland. Fields are green, the weeping willow leaves now are green. Saw a sign for Schlict Springs Conservation area on the left. Will have to come back and check it out! Swedeburg is located at Hwy T/Hwy 133 all quiet. Bushes and trees are flowering, ooohhhh, aaahhhhh! Saw a Toyota 4 x 4 truck sitting in a field for sale. Made it thru Richland and on down Hwy 7 to A Hwy. Saw Salt Box Antiques. New store, new owners and they have some really pretty things and great prices! Handed out brochures to customers. Got the store signed up. So nice to meet Don and Wende and hearing their tales. Off we go to Fleas R Us. Nice to visit with Frank. Got a wonderful update and even got to say hi to Roy and Penny. At the place next door, they have buffalo and emu's and they're out and about. Had a GREAT time! See ya!

Sunshine and 70's out as we head out West on Hwy 54. The bluffs are absolutely beautiful as we cross Bagnell Dam. At the redlight, turn left on MM to cross the toll bridge. Got to stop and enjoy the view. Had a community bridge truck stop and see if we needed help. Watched a boat out riding around on the lake. Moving a dock across the lake, too. Took a left on Hwy 5 to get gasoline. Crossed the Osage Branch of the Lake of the Ozarks. The redbuds and white wild plums are beautiful against the bluffs. 79 degrees at 11:12 A.M. as we turned right at Greenview onto Hwy 7 thru Climax Springs and Edwards, MO. Stopped by to visit with Anderson Computers. Crossed Turkey Creek and the water looks nice and clean. Stopped at several stores in Warsaw and passed out our JCAD brochures. Crossed the Osage Arm of Truman Lake. The wind is making whitecaps in the water. Crossed Grand River Arm of Truman Lake. The water is sparkling in the sun. Made it into Clinton, Mo and on to visit with Sandra and Tracy at Country Cupboard. Over to Wagon Wheel Antiques. Kay was nice enough to stay open a little later and updated the sold items! Their store is wonderful! Took Hwy C out of out of Clinton and headed towards Lincoln. So proud! Wagon Wheel and Country Cupboard have both gotten e-mail addresses! Crossed Truman Lake at the Tebo Arm. Coming into Lincoln and found 4 antique stores on East Main Street, we'll be back! Took a new Back Way as we took Hwy H out to Hwy W. What a pretty ride. Edmonson Access, how pretty, bridge, fishing, bluffs drop off a LONG WAYS DOWN! Turned left on Hwy W and saw 2 wild turkey hens beside the road. So today we've seen turkeys and squirrels. Spring has sprung!

Cloudy out as we head West on Hwy 54. The Osage River is low, but looking good. Tourists bringing in their 5th wheel to camp. How wonderful! Welcome back! Redbuds glow purple all over the bluffs. Stopped by all the antique stores in Osage Beach. After visiting the stores to leave brochures, we took Hwy 5 North at the square in Camdenton. On over to the west side of the lake today. It's such a pretty ride. On into Sunrise Beach, population 181. They have a wonderful library that is on-line! On up to Hurricane Deck and stopped in at Josh's to visit with John. You'll sometimes catch him in his chair by the front door. Their store is wonderful as always! Stopped by all the stores in Laurie, meeting some dealers that were real "Jokers" and then on up to Versailles. After a stop to leave brochures for the Versailles Chamber of Commerce, we made a grocery run. Then we headed home 52 West the back way. Had a GREAT time handing out about 200 brochures today!

Rainy and windy out as we head East on 54 toward the City of Jefferson. Dogwoods and redbuds are absolutely beautiful! We got quite the rain last night. All the ponds are running over, full to the rim. It's raining pretty hard as we get past Eugene, MO and Brazito. Saw the billboard for a store in Jeff, Cramers at 1105 Missouri Blvd. The Moreau Creek is running over the banks. Made it into town and down to visit with Tom at The Antiquarium. Got to meet Sandra that works there! GREAT! Had a real nice visit and update. On up Missouri Blvd. to hand out brochures to stores and stopped by to meet the nice folks at Cramers! Enjoyed the ride home the back way.

Foggy down by the Osage River as we head out around 7:00 a.m. Going to new places today, doing new things! Got to meet wonderful people in Bates County! Got to see a re-enactment of the Civil War at the fairgrounds! Also in Butler, we came across the boyhood home of sci-fi writer, Robert A. Heinlein. Started writing at Spruce, that's between Montrose, population 440 and Butler on H Highway. Waved to a couple out on their knees in their flowerbeds. Their place looked nice! Crossed Marshall Creek on Hwy 52 East. Then we took off South on Hwy 13 and into St. Claire County. Stopped at all the antique stores on the way down to visit with Kathy at Trade Fair Mall. Great new stuff to add to their update on JCAD. Big Otter Creek was looking good. Big machines have worked the banks putting in new pipe. On into Lowry City, population 763. Stopped in to leave brochures, check out new stores and tell them about JCAD. Love to give a brochure to every customer in the store! Nice to ask them what they collect. Crossed the Osage Arm of Truman Lake, so pretty out! On down in Vista. Never been here before. Crossed Weableau Creek and it's looking like goggle-eye or catfish heaven. They have a road off to the side, fishing access available. Went through another new town, Gerster, population, 65. It's a pretty little community. On into Wheatland, population 673. Stopped and had a GREAT visit with Leota at her "House of Treasures". A wonderful home based business and her yard is beautiful all year long! Always something blooming! Wheatland Antiques was closed, but we left a brochure on the door for Otheda. Pomme de Terre River is up and looking good. The dogwoods just glow at Macks Creek. I really can't describe how pretty they are. All the hardwoods, too, all have new green leaves. It's such a wonderful back way! What a TRIP!!

Off on Hwy 54 to 52 East, headed down to Tuscumbia, population 148. Beautiful sunshine out. Have the air conditioner going in the toy. Flags flying, trees are beautiful. Down the hill to get gasoline at the C & C Stop at the 52/17 Junction. Took Hwy 17 South and crossed the Osage River, which is up and looking good today. Crossed Dog Creek, healthy looking beef cattle are happy to eat all the new green grass. Watch out for the nursing home. Their driveway has a blind spot for the cars pulling out! Just slow down and you'll be ok. Lovely new Bluets cover the hillside, so pretty. Two dark blue silo's on left side of the road. The wheat field on the left is now 6-8" tall! Joe rolled down the window so we could hear it squeaking, it's growing so FAST! ha ha Barren Fork Creek is lovely, dogwood patch on a bluff on the right. Beautiful apple tree in full bloom. We're following behind a pickup with a load of cedar bundled up. New house going up, turned off left onto a dirt road, heading towards the water tower. The creek is running. Took Hwy 42 and at the house with the gray elephant in the flowerbed, hang a right onto Hwy BB. Huge limestone rocks on left with algae on them. They're black and look like volcanic rock. Hackberry Road has an entrance of bluets with little white blooms..wild strawberries? Just going to have to take our wildflower book with us as we travel the back way. Entering Maries county. The pond is full! C.O.D.(Come over darlin') as many curves have me over by Joe in seconds. Got me a nice kiss. Pretty white house with many fruit trees in bloom. We got to see a hawk land gracefully in a tree top. Crossed the Little Maries River, a black steer is out of the fence and grazing in the ditch. Gotta get the "elbow grease" out to go on this road. Go South (right) on Hwy 133 towards Dixon, population 1,585. Stopped by to see all the new innovative ideas at Dream House Dolls. Had a great visit and met Kevin. Look forward to more visits with him. Michelle got to tell us about the Paris, France Barbie Show. We told her about going through Paris, MO and thinking of her! Look out JCAD! This woman is "on the ball!" On down to Rinquelin Trail Lake Handicap accessible and electric motors only. Come have a picnic. The view is lovely. Met a guy fishing from Indiana and gave him a JCAD brochure. Drove on down the dirt road and came to 2 low water bridges. So pretty and clear. Took off our shoes and socks. I'm writing this with my feet in the cold water!The toy parked on the slab and clear, cold water running by. Off we go! Dragonflies and a butterfly! Yeah! May Apples are everywhere. Are the morel mushrooms out, yet? My feet are cold and tingly as the wonderful Toyota truck gently climbs up these Ozark mountainsides. Came to a crossing, Redbird Land and Adler Springs. Out to TT Hwy, then Jct 42/A. Go west on 42 towards Iberia. Camp Wilderness sign on left. Where are we? Kenser Creek, then into Iberia, 650. Got a chance to catch Susan at Ol Peddlers Treasures. What a busy woman! Building a new home with help of her husband's 11 brothers and sisters and famlies on weekends! On up Hwy 42 to Brumley, population 81. On into Osage Beach, what a busy afternoon! Passed the city sign for Lakeland, population 351, beautiful blue sky as we head home the back way!

Cloudy out and bumpy as we head West on Hwy 54. Left on Hwy 42 at the light. Cool, we see a milk carton car! (Ice cream man vehicle!) Will have to get a picture, beautiful garden, yard and grapevine at the home on the right. Tony and Deb's Blue Barn Flea Market in Brumley, population 81. Will stop in to visit with them soon. Hang a right onto Hwy C. All is turning green. A HUGE lilac bush beside the house on the right. Crossed Grand Glaize..running pretty good. Entering Camden County. On down into Pulaski County and into Richland, population 1,922. This town has 3 county borders. Pink dogwoods and beautiful houses. 63 degrees at 4:11 p.m., turned left onto Hwy 7, left at light on North Hwy 133. So sad a house has burned to the ground. Hope no one was hurt. Crossed the Railroad tracks and into some of the prettiest country I've ever seen. Huge majestic, magical bluffs and the beautiful Gasconade River! What a site! At I-44, turn left on W and down to a new Flea Market that Don and Wende at Salt Box Antiques told us about. No one there today, but met Gerald and left a brochure for them. Then we headed on down the road as we haven't been here. Welcome to Turkey Ridge store and City Hall! Friendly people, gave away JCAD brochures. Junctions of Rochester Road and Raleigh Road and saw a graveyard and Church with no name. Had to stop at the Gasconade River and wooden bridge. Took some pictures, kicked back and watched the water flow the back way home.

What a day! Had someone pass us right after we pulled out of the driveway! Lots of traffic out as we head West down the "Yellow Brick Road". Big patches of yellow wildflowers blooming. Dogwood heaven, just glowing on both sides of the road. Took Hwy W towards Bagnell Dam to Lakeland and then Lakeside, population 38. Such a pretty way to go. Down on the "strip" to stop at The Shirt Shack. We visited with Elmer and Lorraine and got our URL made in vinyl to put on the tailgate of our Toyota! How Wonderful! On down to hit the toll bridge. Hurricane Deck is beautiful and green! Lots of traffic out, everyone is out enjoying such a nice day! Crossed the Lake of the Ozarks Osage Branch. Looking off the bridge is breathtaking! The ride on Hwy 7 is always pretty. Green, curvy and exciting! Crossed Turkey Creek and turned Right onto Hwy 65 at Mike and Nancy's R Corner Convenience Store! Stop by and tell Mike you read about him on the web! He's our "USPS Boating Class Partner"! Boats are all over at the Lake Of The Ozarks Osage River Bridge. Everyone is fishing or riding around in their boats! Headed off North 7. Truman Lake Osage Arm is HUGE! No condo's or houses, just shoreline of beautiful trees! Long Shoal Public Use area is busy! I guess I'm envious. Looks so nice riding on the lake. Pink dogwood just glow on the left. So nice to see all the shops open and doing brisk business. Big Dodge from Colorado was taking his half of the road out of the middle. Don't want to ride into Clinton in an ambulance. Hang a left at the Hitchin' Post. Wonderful visit with Nancy and Charlie! Their store is better each time we visit! Come say hey! On down Highway 7 by the Clinton airport. The fields are green and some have standing water. Beautiful trees and pretty hotrod! 56 degrees as we were stopped at the intersections of West 18, North 13 or Jct.13/52. Pick one! Stayed on West 18 to Main Street. Turned right and crossed the Railroad tracks. Darlin' had to take a pictures of a building with a Coca-Cola picture painted on the side. Clinton, Missouri has a pretty town square. Drove around the square and turned Right on Washington. We're here at The Emporium Flea Mall. The place is busy, the merchandise is great! Stop by and see Tom and Barbara. I learn something everytime I'm here! YES, the sun is peeking through as we head home the back way on Hwy 52.

4/25/99
Pouring rain as we head West on Hwy 54. All the vehicles have their lights on. A lot of traffic heading towards the City of Jefferson. Not many going The Back Way! Down to Linn Creek to get gasoline at J.E.B.'s Junction. Steady rain as we go thru Camdenton, population 2,561. Pink and white dogwoods shine so bright all around the courthouse lawn. Coming into Preston, Missouri. The ponds are full, still raining but getting lighter out. Crossed Hwy 65 at the red blinking light. Stay on West 54. Beautiful flowers! On into Hermitage, population 512 and the Pomme De Terre River is up and beautiful! Pomme De Terre Lake is only 4 miles down Hwy 254. Saw a sign for Hickory County Museum. Will have to come back another day. Jack and Jenny's Restaurant is packed! On into Wheatland, population 363. Huge scarecrow in a healthy garden on the left. They have lettuce up and shining green! Still raining out. Many beautiful lilac bushes everywhere. Into Weableau, population 436, crossed the Little Weableau Creek and is looking good! How wonderful! ABC Shop is OPEN! Had a GREAT visit with Vernon and Louise. Got a wonderful update and darlin' took pictures. Headed South on Hwy 13. Still raining. Saw the sign for Humansville, population 6,815. 14 miles to Bolivar, MO. Stockton Lake is 20 miles on right down Hwy 32. See the signs! Arrived at Country Classics! Sharon and Larry are extremely busy for quite a while. After hours of updating, we finally got a turn to visit! Their store is wonderful! Took Hwy 83/Bus 13 into town. Passed Southwest Baptist University. Took Hwy D to Hwy PP! What a pretty one lane bridge. Entered Elkton, the plowed fields are standing in water as we head North. Heading home back on the yellow brick road. The Little Niangua is up to the banks and chocolate brown and moving fast! Water is standing in the road on a hillside! The bluffs on both sides are alive with glowing dogwood flowers. They sure are pretty. The Ozark Mountains are just beautiful. Can "sneak a peek" at the Niangua River at the Lake of the Ozarks. Come on, it's been a long day! Let's head home the back way!

Beautiful sunshine and 70 degrees as we head out to Hwy 54 East. So nice out! Moreau Creek is muddy, but running. Seeing some really nice vintage cars and trucks heading down to the Beach for the car show this weekend. Highway Patrol and ambulance running lights and heading West. All the trees have beautiful leaves. Smoke ahead as we travel through the City of Jefferson. See the pretty state Capital off to the right. Stay on Hwy 54, crossing the Missouri River, which is so pretty and HUGE! Green color and completely full! Hang a right onto Hwy 94 heading the Back Way. Saw several joggers on the Katy Trail. The huge limestone bluffs on the left are truly magnificent and on the right, you have plowed fields and at the tree line, you have the Missouri River. Trees everywhere, cherry, elm, pine, sycamore, water oak, so many we don't know. All the leaves are a different shade of green. A pretty neat trail. Coming to the community of Tebbets, looking busy, lots of farm machinery out. Hillers Creek is alive and clear. Darlin' saw a beaver on the left. See the "smoke signals" ahead from the nuclear reactor. Saw two red tailed hawks, one dived into the ditch and took off with a snake in his claws. Middle River is chocolate brown and over it's banks. Mokane, population 186 sign says, "Home of the Bulldogs". Crossed Eastwing Creek, it's above the banks and the fields around it are standing full of water. Auxvasse Creek is flooded, too. All the levy's are full! Can see the reactor smoke off to the left now. Powerful stuff. The water is running over the 1 lane bridge, took a picture! The river was supposed to crest yesterday at Hermann, 7 feet above flood stage. Eagle Creek is full and a young deer ran across the road and up the hill. She wasn't very old, but looked very scared. At Jct D/94, go right. Down the hill. Big Tavern Creek is almost up to the bridge! Little Tavern Creek looked just the same, not flooded. Bluffton is so pretty, big and green! Grand Bluffs Conservation Area is off to the left. Hwy 94 winds around many corners, still have the bluffs and the Katy Trail on the left. Rhineland, population, 157. Took a left on Hwy 19 to go see Frank Tucker Antiques. Crossed Bear Creek and it's up. Frank wasn't home, so we left a brochure. Back down Hwy 19 towards Hermann. A real pretty pond on the right. Loutre Shore Country Club is alive and well. Everything is so pretty and green! Made it back to Hermann, MO, population 2,754 and stopped to visit with Pete at Pete's Plunder Antiques. Got to visit with him and Teresa and look at all the wonderful antiques in both his stores! If you're looking for Quality antique furniture, this is the place! Out of Hermann and back across the Missouri River and West on Hwy 19. Stopped in Portland, MO to get my pen to write more! Took off our hats as we passed a funeral in session. Off to the left, you can see the swollen Missouri River. We couldn't see that view with the car, but we can in the Toyota! The water across the low water bridge is deeper! It's still on the rise! On down to the City of Jefferson, population 35,481. Be careful out there traveling with the creeks running, but enjoy the wild Back Way home!
