5/15/99 Busy month so far! Been making many travels to hand out the latest JCAD brochures that I haven't written about. Today is's nice out as we head East on Hwy 54. Took Hwy 87 North through Eldon and on towards California, MO, population 3,465. We can see a HUGE storm front off to our left. Riders on the storm. The sunshine is now gone. It's so black out that we have to turn on our headlights and it's only 9:30 A.M. We're seeing many large trees with clusters of white blooms on them. Can't say what kind of tree they are, but they sure are pretty. Slowed down at the Juction of Hwys 87 and C as we see several adults and many children out picking up trash along the highway, "Shamrock 4-H Club" has adopted this stretch of highway. Stopped and talked to one of the kind ladies and traded a JCAD brochure for one of her large, clean, clear trash bags to put over our work box. We always carry it in the back of the Toyota, and it's not waterproof! We got it all wrapped up and away we go. We turned around in a driveway and there was a large, dead snake and he's "belly up", look out, it's gonna RAIN! We're still heading North and streaks of lightning are shooting straight down in front of us. Trying to make it to California, crossed Burris Fork Creek. A field of yellow flowers glow before you get to Burgers Smokehouse. Splat, big raindrops are hitting the windshield. Now, it's raining harder, and then it's pouring rain!! We made it to town, stopped in to visit for a moment at the new "Recollections" shop and left some brochures, nice place, I was dripping rain, so I didn't look around much this trip. Had to jump the ditch of water running beside the toy, back up the street to meet Herb and Freda at their Carosel Antique Mall. Lovely place, real nice folks, stop in and visit a while. Please tell 'em JCAD sent ya! The rain is running so deep, we're driving through streams of it. No fun with all the lightning, wondering about our children at home and the storm headed their way. Pounding rain running wild down the street, need to get the paddles out and float home. Instead, we head towards higher ground and making it home the back way. Be safe! |
