Beautiful day out as we head East on Hwy 54. The wildflowers are in full bloom, sweet peas, wild pink roses and they smell so good as we ride by. Heading out today to pass out JCAD brochures and meet new folks in the city of Jefferson. Stop at a store downtown, see that it's for sale, I've been trying to get them in JCAD for years. Will miss our visits. Jefferson City is less than 50 miles from our home, so it's not far away, yet it's the Capitol of the state, population 35,517 and it's really a pretty town. We always enjoy stopping to visit at the State Information Center and also visiting at the Missouri River Regional Library up on Adams Street. We've been leaving our JCAD brochures at both places for many years. Another of our favorite stops is at the Lohman Building down by the railroad tracks. They have a museum of unique artifacts about the area and even have a film they show with information about the history of this city. It only takes a few minutes of your time and we sure enjoyed watching it. Off we go, meeting new folks all over town as we ride around and find new stores of interest. We went by a new shop and had to stop. It's a resale shop at 704 Main Street called Main Street Trading Company and the friendly folks greeted us as we stepped inside. They have wonderful clothes for the entire family and some interesting antiques on display. Got to visit with Cheri, the owner, and told her about our site and The Back Way. She's online, hope she'll come visit soon. I'll have to bring my daughters back here for all of us to shop! All day, we've been watching the rain fall over yonder. It's gone all around us so far. Also stopped on Washington Street at the Calico Cottage. Met Judy and enjoyed a tour of this shop. It's so much bigger inside than it looks outside! They carry many unique gifts for your home or office. Also made a stop on West Dunklin at Southside Furniture and met Richard, the owner. He was busy selling and has some wonderful furniture, wardrobes, desks. Thanks for letting us leave some JCAD brochures to give to your customers. We headed out of town on a new back way for us, 9 Hills Road then onto Hwy D. Some really pretty country. We crossed the Canton Bridge and into the community of Lohman, population 154. Waved at folks in their yard, and enjoyed riding the back way home. Ya'll be careful and hope to see you soon!

Beautiful day out as Darlin', Marty and I head East on Hwy 54. Pretty blue sky and some white puffy clouds. The humidity is low today, it's really a nice day out. Lots of tourists out and about. Got off on the Hwy 54/52 exit and went left towards Eldon. Everything is so lush and green. Lots of motorcycles out and about today, too. Into the city limits of Eldon, population 4, 419. A big batch of sweet peas blooming on the right catch my eye. Down to Maple Street to visit with Gene at Blast From the Past. This store is such fun to find stuff in. As always, we had a good visit with Gene and Darlin' got some great pictures! We'll get this web page updated soon. On down the road to visit with Dan and Jettie at Trade N Place. How wonderful to meet Jettie in person and thanks for the cookies! ha ha This store is always a pleasure to update and today the musicians are playing and singing as we take photo's and hand out brochures and find out what each customer collects. It was a great day for working local stores. Come see all the shops on Maple Street and tell 'em JCAD sent ya! Thanks! Passed out many brochures, thanks Meg, for letting us leave a JCAD brochure for each table at your wonderful tea room next door. Always good to see you and we sure do appreciate you doing that for us. We got to enjoy the sunset as we headed the back way home. Welcome to the Lake of the Ozarks area, enjoy your stay and enjoy the view!

Rainy out as we head West on Hwy 54. Quite the storm this morning, lots of folks are now heading back East towards the city. We're going around the Lake of the Ozarks area today to visit with store owners on the west side as we travel North on Hwy 5. As it's Sunday, we got to visit at many stores. Enjoyed visiting with Billie at S & W Bargain Spot in Sunrise Beach. Thanks for the hugs, we've sure missed you guys. Bill was snoozing in a comfortable easy chair in the back room. Thanks for taking some of our brochures to KC with you. On up to Laurie, MO and left brochures at Almost Everything, I believe we even met the owner. On down the road and got to find a new store and meet shop owner, Lisa, at The Treasure Chest. Her store has been open about a week and she carries antiques, gifts and collectibles. Booth space is available. Stop in and tell her JCAD sent ya! (See, you ARE in the back way!) On up to Gravois to meet the Mr. at Kimmi's Antiques. The other new shops next door were closed on Sundays. Got to visit with friends and JCAD sponsor, as we continued North and sure did enjoy some fine BBQ. Thanks Ray and John. We had fun! On up to Versailles, MO to leave some JCAD brochures at Charlie's Meats and our favorite, Camps Market. We've passed out over 150 brochures today. Met many wonderful folks and had a great old time traveling the back way. Hope you enjoyed it, too!

Cloudy day out as we head down the road. Took Hwy 52 West, lots of traffic out today. The ditches are full of colorful wildflowers. Gasoline today is 165.9 as we passed through Eldon and heading towards Versailles. Crossed the South Fork of the Moreau Creek. All the creeks are full to the banks and runny muddy. We've had many nice rains the last 2 weeks and most counties are still under a flash flood watch. Entered Morgan County and see beautiful pink roses climbing at a fence on the right. Everything is so nice and green. Into the community of Barnett, population 215. Stopped at the AMOCO Food shop to pass out brochures. (They have FREE air for your tires.) Ox eye daisies cover the hillsides now and the Queen Anne's lace are starting to top out. Field with black dirt and corn a few inches tall shining down the rows. Pretty horses enjoying all this green grass. The fescue fields are almost ready to mow. Now we're entering Benton County. The hills here are covered with purple MO snakeroot. Into the town of Cole Camp, population 1,054. Stopped again for a nice visit with Judy at PJ's Emporium. Thanks for letting us leave brochures. Next door to the Chamber of Commerce and enjoyed meeting Barbara. On down the road to meet Gail at the Handel Haus at 101 South Maple. What a wonderful new store! Had to stop by and say hi at Tarastorm and leave the latest brochures! Turned left, heading South on Hwy 65. Road construction still going on. Stopped at the Rigbyville Complex, so nice to visit with everyone again! Thanks for letting us leave JCAD brochures. On down the road and into Lincoln, MO, population 864. Drove by a diner and saw the folks in the window enjoying themselves. Went around the block and came back to Winkler's Main Street Restaurant for an excellent meal, the special of the day. Our waitress collects advertising tins, and thanks for the menu for my collection! Stayed on Hwy C through many unusual intersections. The wheat field is ready, the corn rows are knee high. What a lovely area. Truman Lake Tebo Arm is full to overflowing, I've never seen it this deep. Hwy C ends at Hwy 7, so we turned right on North Hwy 7 towards Clinton. A redwing blackbird is sitting on the wire fence. Old barns on the left and a huge new house on the right. You'll also see an old silo on the right. We met a day glow green electric car tooling right along. On into Clinton, MO, coming in on East Ohio Street. On down to stop at The Emporium Flea Market. Had a GREAT visit with Tom and Barbara. Darlin' got some great pictures and I got a good update and a new Missouri Chigger magazine. On over to Wagon Wheel Antique Mall to get to visit with Merry. Even got a quote for our newsletter. Thanks Merry! Your store is wonderful as always. Stopped at the Wine Barrel Antiques and left JCAD brochures for Darlene. On over to The Rusty Shovel and Memories Antique Mall. Had a fun visit with a customer, here. He travels with his wife all over the Midwest to visit antique stores. We learned a lot about Kansas, Oklahoma and Nebraska! Even made an Aldi run while we were here in town. Our fannies are draggin' as we head the back way home. But we have our Squeeze Breeze bottle from Wal-mart. It has a little fan on front and we use straight witchhazel to spray on our feet, legs and arms. Feels great! Heading home pretty much the way we came. Little Toyota is full of groceries, we have another 12 pack of water, juice and soda, and a bag of ice! We're heading home. Ya'll be careful and enjoy the trip!

Beautiful sunshine out as we head West on Hwy 54. Inside Lake Ozark, population 1,142 and through Osage Beach. Lots of traffic as we went through Camdenton and Macks Creek. We turned left on Hwy 73 and entering Dallas County. Wildflowers fill the ditches alongside the road. The sky is filling up with puffy white clouds. We have 2 tour buses ahead of us. I've never seen so much traffic on Hwy 73. Hundreds of snakeroot plants, clover and black eye Susan's fill the roadside. How nice to see that many of the houses along the way are flying an American flag. Several huge clumps of climbing wild roses, pink ones, and patches of sweet peas fill with air with a great scent before we reach the 73/64 Junction. Gasoline today is 159.9. We saw two fields where hay has just been cut, wind rows in a field across the road and a few new round bales, they are baling the hay as I write. A first for this years hay crop. Into the town of Buffalo, population 2,414 and it keeps growing! Got to stop at Polly's and got to meet Nancy's Mom and left lots of brochures. On down Hwy 32 into Bolivar, population 6,845. Had a nice visit with Larry and Sharon at Country Classics Antiques and Darlin' got some good pictures. I gave out brochures to everyone. All busy, at the store today. Will get to visit more next time. A reflective back way home. Ya'll be careful on these MO roads.

Busy Thursday as we head East on Hwy 54 towards Jefferson City. Taking a monitor to the FedEx office to ship back. So happy for the KDS warranty, doesn't do too much good computing if you can't see anything! They shipped the replacement within 3 days. We were pleased. Got to pass out several JCAD brochures. We found 2 shops side by side on Broadway Street. Met nice folks at both The Schaefer House, with distinctive gifts and fine home furnishings and next door's Art by Kathleen. Thanks for letting me pass out JCAD brochures. Stopped at Brazito on the way home to visit with Jean at Ventures. This shop is looking good. Thanks for letting me leave brochures to give to your customers. Heading home on Hwy 54. Ya'll be careful out on these highways. Come ride along with us again soon.

Beautiful day out as we head East on Hwy 54. Got off on the Tuscumbia East Hwy 52 Exit and headed towards Tusbumbia. Wildflowers and orange chigger weed off on the right. Gorgeous snowball bush at house on the right. What a pretty yard and great garden. What thick hay in the field on the right, now that's gonna make some good hay. Smells so sweet as we drive by. Yard ornaments on the right have 3 bear silhouettes, the first bear is eating out of a bucket. The Tuscumbia sign welcomes you to Miller County. Stop and read it. It's quite interesting. The city limits sign says the population is 218. It's a lovely little town with pretty houses and well tended flower beds and gardens. The Miller County Museum is open today! Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 10 am to 4 pm. Turned right and crossed the Osage River bridge. The river is up and muddy. See blue chicory flowers, white queen Anne's lace and orange butterfly bush blooming everywhere. Crossed Dog creek and the hillsides are lush with huge trees. Fresh cut round bales of hay dot the fields on the right. We're off today for a surprise visit to see a dear friend of ours, Betty. Best friends for 20+ years. She's an avid gardener and a Back Way reader and has been sending me e-mails to get my fingers to typing! So today, we wanted her to become a part of the back way, too! Coming into the town of Iberia, gasoline is 146.9. There's a guy out in the field combining fescue seed on the left on a big blue AMF. See a yard sign, fresh brown eggs for sale, $1.00 dozen. Into the town of Crocker, MO, population 1,707. I can see those Ozark Mountains shining as we take dips in the highway heading out of town. Took a picture of the beautiful bluff and the Roubidoux River. Awesome is the only way to describe it. Into the town of Waynesville, population 3,207. Passed a new business and turned around to go back. It's the River Front Greenhouse. Met Nyda, this place has been open since April. Great place, do stop by! Nice to meet ya'll and thanks for letting us leave JCAD brochures! On downtown to have a nice visit with Virgie at The Dusty Attic! Always good to see you. Thanks for giving away our brochures. Crossed Hwy 44, running along side it, now we're getting our kicks on Route 66. Just so beautiful to travel this way. A pair of golden lions shine in the sunshine and guard a driveway on the right. Into the town of Roby, our favorite car auction on Tuesdays here. Saw a new baby colt, just born, on the right. Bet the folks don't even know it's here yet. Into Bucyrus, down by Dog's Bluff, Horseshoe bend, the views are magnificent. These old Ozark Mountains are shining blue, the Mark Twain Forests keep us green. We see the hills, valleys, beautiful farmland. Turned right on Hwy Z and into our old stomping grounds. Crossed the Piney River, first right is Eagles Bluff, so nice to see again. Stopped at Hightown, also known as the community of Clara. We stopped for Darlin' to take pictures and you understand it called Hightown, you can see for miles and miles and miles. We stopped here at night many years ago to see the Northern Lights dancing in the sky. Took the back way down Leo Road to get some good shots before, and at Baptist Camp. A swimming hole from the past. Down to Hwy 63 and hang a right. The lights were on, but nobody's home. Your flowerbeds are beautiful and Darlin' taped a JCAD brochures to Missy's doghouse. We'll try again soon. On down the road to take some pictures at Sandy Point. I've caught many a bluegill from standing on these rocks. Back to Roby the way we came in. Stopped to wash the Toy at the carwash by Walt's. The truck is all clean and shiny again and we're cooled off. Away we go down Hwy 32 towards Lebanon. Crossed Rock Creek and into Plato, population, 74. Took more pictures at Doolittle Creek and shots of a beautiful barn, rocks and flowers. Into Lynchburg and stayed on Hwy 32 through Falcon, MO. Saw a new store, it's Falcon Antiques & Junk. Met Mr. Box from Oklahoma. What a GREAT shop! We'll be back. On down the road to cross the Osage Fork river and Cobbs creek. Beautiful sunshine out today. Into Sunnyview, what a nice community. We were running out of drinks and snacks, so to Aldi we go! Got juices, more water and soda, salted nuts and chocolate! Now we're heading home up Hwy 5 North through Camdenton, onto Hwy 54 through Osage Beach. Getting home the back way is always an adventure. Be safe!
