07/04/02 Happy 4th of July, America! We have our big American flag out on the side of the shed. It was really nice to see the whole country celebrating our freedom, not only on July 4th, but ALL week long! Many fireworks celebrations all around the lake area, many fireworks shows here at home, too! Our children had to work late, we were out celebrating at 2:00 a.m. and loving every minute of it! We were feasting on shish-ka-bobs that had been cooked on the hickory fire and sweet watermelon while applauding all the fireworks being set off! You can kiss our fannies, Usama; we're still a country that believes in freedom and democracy! We saw that traveling from town to town here in our area. We are a country strongly united, let freedom ring! 07/14/02 Beautiful blue shies and 70's out as we head over to our daughter, Robin's house to trade the Toyota for her new Ford car. We're headed west on Hwy 54 for a JCAD adventure. It's been a LONG time since I've been on a JCAD run. I believe it was last December that I've been to Bolivar and Clinton. Marty has been running with my Darlin' to do all these updates. Hoping to be able to ride that far in this car, we'll see. Lots of traffic out as we head out of Osage Beach. Several folks are out jogging and walking this morning. Saw a sign for 54 Antiques at Macks Creek. Turned around and went back, hey, we know him! It's the toy guy we met years ago in Boonville. Him and his wife have opened up a shop at their home. Good luck! Off to Buffalo and left JCAD brochures on the way and all through town. So many places have come and gone. Told them they should have gotten a JCAD web page! We had to stop, get out and walk awhile. My Darlin' is getting hungry, so glad to hear that! We stopped at our favorite, Victorian Restaurant for a roast beef hot dip sandwich. Have a to-go bag full of goodies for later on, too! Heading down West Hwy 32, the fields and yards look very dry, they didn't get all the recent rains we did. Many beautiful gardens on the way to the junction of Hwys FF and J. Stopped at Bo Peeps. No longer a store, the lady that came out got a JCAD brochure anyhow! On down to Country Classic Antiques, they have new summer Sunday hours, 9:30 to 4:30. Had a nice visit and passed out JCAD brochures to all the customers. Darlin' got some great pictures and now we're headed North on Hwy 13. Turned right on Hwy 123 to go to Humansville. Stopped at Garretson's Flea Market and left the 2 ladies some brochures. Even got to stop and visit with Kathy at Trade Fair Mall. Good to see her, it's been such a long time! She sure did look different with her waist length hair cut short. On down the road, Truman Lake is looking good today. Hwy 13 is much better than last time I traveled it, it's opened up 4 lane all the way to Clinton, now. Made it to Wagon Wheel Antique Store and Flea Market. Had a GREAT visit with Merry! She said her 4th of July week sale did gangbusters! Glad to hear it! Met some nice folks from Kentucky and of course, they all got a JCAD brochure. Out and under a shade tree to cool down and get ready to head on down the road. Stopped at the Chamber of Commerce in Clinton, but they were closed as it's Sunday. This has been a LONG JCAD run, we're hurting, but happy to have made it this far! Now we're ready to head back towards the Beach. This back way adventure is dedicated to my friend in Texas County, Betty, who has been asking where my writings were and where have we been? Be safe and stay cool in the Missouri summer heat. And please be sure to come travel the back way with us again soon! 07/29/02 So sad to write that Jesse and Robin came over early. My Mom had called their home and they came over to see us, my Dad passed away this morning. All our love goes down to Georgia for Liz and Mom and Tom. We'll see you soon. My wonderful Darlin' had made a web page for my Witcher family history awhile back, it's Witcher |
